St. Therese of Lisieux
🌹 Biography
St. Thérèse of Lisieux (1873–1897) was a French Carmelite nun who became one of the Catholic Church’s most beloved saints. She entered the Carmelite convent at Lisieux at only fifteen and lived a quiet, largely hidden life before dying of tuberculosis at twenty-four.
Thérèse became known for her “Little Way”—the belief that holiness can be found not only in extraordinary acts, but in doing ordinary, seemingly insignificant things with extraordinary love, trust, and humility. Her spiritual autobiography, Story of a Soul, became enormously influential after her death.
She is traditionally depicted carrying roses and a crucifix, reflecting her promise to “let fall a shower of roses” after her death. Pope John Paul II declared her a Doctor of the Church in 1997, recognizing the importance of her spiritual teaching.

🌹 Chaplet of St. Thérèse — The Little Flower
Begin with the Sign of the Cross.
Then pray:
1 Glory Be, in thanksgiving to the Holy Trinity for the graces given to St. Thérèse during her 24 years of life.
Then pray 24 times:
St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus, pray for us.
Traditionally, the 24 repetitions commemorate each year of her life.
Afterward, you can make your personal petition and conclude with:
St. Thérèse, the Little Flower, please pick me a rose from the heavenly garden and send it to me with a message of love. Ask God to grant the favor I implore and tell Him I will love Him each day more and more. Amen.
Finish with the Sign of the Cross.
🌹 The nine-day practice
A popular form of the devotion is to pray the chaplet once a day for nine consecutive days, bringing the same intention to St. Thérèse each day.
🌹 How to pray a St. Thérèse novena
Each day, find a quiet place, make the Sign of the Cross, and name the intention you are bringing to the novena. You can say it aloud or simply hold it in your heart.
Then pray:
St. Thérèse, Little Flower of Jesus,
you taught us to approach God with the confidence of a little child.
Help me to follow your Little Way,
doing small things with great love
and trusting completely in God's mercy.Little Flower, I ask you to bring my petition before Jesus:
[state your intention]If what I ask is according to God's will,
intercede for me and obtain this grace.
If God wills something different,
help me to trust Him as completely as you did.St. Thérèse, you promised to spend your heaven doing good upon earth
and to let fall a shower of roses.
Pray for me, that I may love Jesus more deeply

Rose-Petal Petition — Write your petition on a small piece of paper, fold it toward yourself three times, place it beneath an image of St. Thérèse, and surround it with dried rose petals. Light a white or pink candle and pray a Glory Be followed by, “Little Flower, place this petition among your roses and carry it to God.” Keep it there for nine days.
Nine-Rose Novena Working — Place nine dried roses or rose petals in a bowl before her image. Each day of a St. Thérèse novena, remove one and place it in a small envelope or sachet after praying. On the ninth day, keep the nine petals together as a devotional reminder of the intention.
Road-Opening With the Little Flower — For periods when you don't know what direction to take, place her image beside a small key and a rose. Light a candle and ask: “St. Thérèse, show me the little way forward.” Pray for discernment rather than demanding a particular outcome. Carry the key afterward as a reminder to notice small opportunities.
Reconciliation Working — Write the names of two people on opposite sides of a paper. Fold the sides toward one another, place a rose petal between them, and put the petition beneath St. Thérèse's image. Pray specifically for softened hearts, understanding, and reconciliation—not control over another person's will.
Self-Love / Confidence Working — This fits her spirituality surprisingly well because her Little Way emphasizes accepting one's smallness rather than becoming extraordinary. Place a small mirror before her image with rose petals around it. Each morning for nine days, pray for the ability to see yourself with God's mercy rather than through fear or inadequacy.
Rose Water Blessing — Put rose water in a small bowl beside her image while praying your novena. Afterward, use a little to bless a doorway, devotional object, journal, or yourself while asking for Thérèse's intercession. I would not call the water holy water, since traditionally that specifically means water blessed by clergy.
Finding a Sign / Discernment Working — Instead of demanding the famous “rose sign,” ask Thérèse for clarity: “Little Flower, if it is God's will, help me recognize the path I should follow.” Keep a rose beside your petition and journal anything significant that happens during the nine days. The important distinction is treating coincidences as something to reflect upon rather than automatic supernatural proof.
Home Peace Working — Place her image in the central part of the home with a white candle and roses. Pray a Glory Be in each room, asking for patience, gentleness, charity, and peace among everyone living there. Finish at her image and let the candle burn for a safe period before extinguishing it.
